Musk Rat, Ondatra zibethicus

Suborder Sciurognathi

The Musk Rat is the largest species of vole and is found in lakes and slow flowing rivers with dense cover on the banks. The long tail and webbing between the hind toes assist in swimming. In marshes Musk Rats build conical lodges of twigs. They feed on aquatic plants and invertebrates, such as molluscs.
