Models showing ‘Alternation of Generations’ in Scyphozoan jellyfish.
1. Fertilised egg settles.
2 – 5 Egg develops into a polyploid feeding larva with tentacles.
6. The polyp begins to divide horizontally (strobilate) to form a scyphistoma.
7. The scyphistoma develops into a stack of small medusae - the ephyrae.
8. The ephyrae are released individually into the plankton.
