A PROBABLE CLADOGRAM FOR EUTHERIAN MAMMALS

A cladogram is a form of evolutionary tree which links species according to their shared characteristics which evolved after their divergence from other species in the group3. A cladogram is constructed by computing the least number of evolutionary changes to explain the different degrees of relatedness between the species under study.

(1) Eutheria; (2) Edentata; (3) Epitheria; (4) Insectivora; (5) Lipotyphla; (6) Siricomorpha; (7-10) unnamed clades; (11) Volitantia; (12) unnamed clade; (13) Anagalida; (14) Glires; (15) unnamed clade; (16) Ungulata; (17-18) unnamed clades; (19) Paenungulata; and (20) Tethytheria (based on Novacek, 1986)22.

The Volantia clade (Dermoptera + Chiroptera) is very uncertain at this point.
